In Memory of Robert Grosvenor (1937-2025)
September 12, 2025
Just as the sculptor who reveals a figure buried in a marble block, Grosvenor reveals the inspirations of industrial geometry, buried in our lack of attention.
When I wrote that observation for our Robert Grosvenor exhibition in the Archive Gallery (June 8—August 24, 2025), I had just spoken to him on the phone a month before about the organization of his elements in our gallery. His son had told me that he had become fragile and may not be able to attend the exhibition opening.
Today, we were shocked to learn that Robert passed away on September 3rd. He was a very important artist in the sense that he stood out on his own unique territory, and in a deeply original way throughout his career. The show at ‘T’ Space was a wonderful honor, charging our gallery with Robert’s strange, joyful energy. The entire art world will miss this creator whose sculptural works seemed always to ask questions with a chrome-tooth grin.
