‘T’ Space Gallery and Architectural Archive Internship – Fall 2024

The Steven Myron Holl Foundation (SMHF) seeks an intern to support its ‘T’ Space exhibition series, events, its Architectural Archive and Research Library, and related programs. Interns will learn and apply skills in arts administration, events, development, and communications support, and archive management, with additional opportunities in art handling and exhibition installation/deinstallation on our small campus in Rhinebeck, New York.

SMHF’s programs include two major exhibitions/year, an outdoor performance series, a residency for emerging architects, tours, and the archive and library. Artistic programming at the gallery examines the engagement with architecture and physical space in contemporary art, often emphasizing artists’ creative process through rarely exhibited studies and experiments. Programs are held at the Archive, galleries, and surrounding 28-acre nature reserve in Rhinebeck, NY.

Responsibilities may include:

– Gallery attendant duties, mandatory every Sunday 11am – 5pm for the duration of our current exhibition (on view through October 13th)**
– Assist with exhibitions and programs as needed: giving tours, events, installation/deinstallation
– Assist with development and admin activities, such as fundraising research, mailing lists, and social media
– Assist with the management, organization, and display of archive and library materials

Desired skills and experiences:

– Ability to work independently, solve problems, and be accountable for your work—we are a very small organization, therefore our interns take on real responsibilities!
– Attention to detail and disciplined ability to organize
– Strong time management, self-motivation, communication skills
– Comfortable with public speaking, memorizing and presenting information accurately and in an engaging manner
– Willingness, enthusiasm, and flexibility to pitch in and contribute to our small team wherever needed
– Demonstrated interest in visual art, architecture, or other cultural activities

Fall internships are typically 8 hours/week through the semester, with mandatory gallery sitting hours every Sunday through October 13. Total number of hours/week commitment is flexible.
