‘T’ Space exhibitions featured as “Must-See” during Upstate Art Weekend
July 17, 2024
PAINTING / SCULPTURE by Peter Halley and Steph Gonzalez-Turner was featured by Matt Moment in “Must-see events during Upstate Art Weekend” for the Albany Times Union.
“Even if it was empty of artwork, ‘T’ Space would warrant a visit. The brainchild of Steven Holl, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters whom Time once declared “America’s Best Architect,” the Rhinebeck art space exemplifies how a man-made structure may converse with sunlight and nature. Better still, it is not empty, but rather ingeniously occupied by the sculptures of Steph Gonzalez-Turner and a site-specific paint job by Peter Halley. Expanding on his decades-long exploration of geometric abstraction, Halley has responded to the architecture of ‘T’ Space by applying rectangles of buoyant color directly onto its walls, paying special attention to the building’s apertures. His intervention only intensifies Gonzalez-Turner’s arresting statues, whose sparse bodies impose order upon the incongruities of their constituent colors, patterns and vectors.”

Shou Sugi Ban Sculptures by James Casebere was featured by Paul Laster in “10 Must-See Shows During Upstate Art Weekend 2024” for Art & Object.
“Celebrated for his realistic, large-scale photographs of sculptural and architectural models, James Casebere has created a new series of large-scale wooden geometric sculptures that simulate the notion of synthetic nature for ‘T’ Space’s dynamic Archive Gallery, designed by architect Steven Holl, the foundation’s founder. Using wood preserved by charring it with fire (an ancient Japanese techinique known as Shou Sugi Ban, which ironically makes the timber fire-resistant,) Casebere has constructed modular mountains that offer new possibilities for both rural and urban architecture and industrial design.”
